Bombers Split Double Header

Lafayette, LA – July 31, 2018 – After last night’s game was postponed due to weather, the Bombers and Cane Cutters played both games today in a double header at Farbacher Field. The Bombers dropped the first game 1-0, but came back and won game 2 8-7 for the series split.

Game One of the double header was a pitchers’ duel between Matthew Beck of the Cane Cutters and Zach Iverson of the Bombers. The Bombers could not generate any offense all night, as they were unable to register a hit all game. The difference in the game was a run scored by the Cane Cutters in the 3rd inning. Zach Iverson went the distance for the Bombers, pitching 6 innings, allowing just 5 hits, one run, and registering 8 strikeouts.

While Game One was a pitchers’ duel, Game Two was not lacking any offense. The Bombers struck in the first inning. With Alex Nielsen driving a single to score Cole Coker and Casey Danley. Zach Iverson then followed it up with a RBI single of his own as did Sy Snedeker to make the score 4-0. The Bombers bats struck again in the second inning, as Alex Nielsen again hit a RBI single for his second RBI of the game, giving the Bombers a 5-0 lead. After Cam Blake scored on a Cane Cutters error in the 4th, the home team finally got on the board, scoring 3 and cutting the lead to 6-3.

In what was a trend during Game Two, the Bombers had success with two outs as Dylan Bohnert picked up a two out single for a RBI. The Cane Cutters then answered with a pair of runs to make the score 7-5. The 7th inning again provided the Bombers an opportunity to capitalize on a Cane Cutters error as Zach Iverson scored to give the Bombers a 8-5 lead entering the bottom of the 7th. The Cane Cutters attempted a rally in the 9th, hitting a two run, two out triple, placing the tying run 90 feet away, yet the Bombers stranded him to give the Bombers a 8-7 win.

The Bombers return action with a home series at Travis Field starting on Friday, August 3rd for Aggie Night at the ballpark against Acadiana. Tickets are on sale now at bvbombers.com.
